Ajax captain, Matthijs De Ligt, claimed that he is fully focused on his role at Ajax amidst wide interest from top European clubs like Barcelona and Manchester City.

It is no secret that besides Barcelona, giants like Paris Saint- Germain, and Manchester City were linked to sign the Ajax talent. The 19-year-old Dutch prodigy has already impressed top European clubs with some majestic displays for both his club and his country.

De Ligt is a product of the famed Ajax Academy, which is one of the best in the world and produced some all time greats. Barring his superior defensive abilities, the Ajax captain has shown tremendous caliber in leading his team while depicting his calmness at the defense.

De Ligt scored his first goal for the Netherlands but for a losing cause against Germany. The Ajax prodigy was also superb at the heart of Dutch defense in the UEFA Nations League.

The Dutch center-back has managed four goals across 32 matches in all competitions for his club in the current campaign so far. De Ligt showed his caliber when Ajax knocked out Real Madrid in the Round of 16 of the Champions League this season.

In the Dutch League, Ajax are currently behind leaders PSV by five points after 26 games.

The heart of the matter

Despite wide interest from clubs like Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus, De Ligt is keeping an open mind and wants to focus on his remaining matches with Ajax in the campaign.

"I play my game, focus on football and we'll see where I end up," the Dutchman said in an interview with Esporte Interativo as quoted by Marca,
"it is not something that worries me."
"I am currently playing for Ajax and the national team, so that is what I'm focussing on. I'm gaining experience and I like it."

What's next?

Ajax are set for a first-leg clash with Juventus on April 1 in the Champions League Quarter Finals but before that, they'll face a vital clash with league leaders PSV in Eredivisie.
