Wenger insists Arsenal won't buy super striker in January

Arsenal are facing somewhat of an injury crisis, meaning Arsene Wenger will be searching for a ‘special signing’ in the January transfer window.

Aaron Ramsey, Olivier Giroud, Nacho Monreal, Thomas Vermaelen, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out injured which is forcing Wenger to dip into the market.

A striker was a priority in the summer as Wenger chased Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain but, ultimately, failed to sign one and has had to rely on Giroud since day one.

The constant time on the pitch and heavy reliance on Giroud has now shown as he has sustained an injury.

Giroud recently commented and said he hopes Wenger doesn’t sign a striker in January.

When told of Giroud’s comments, Wenger said: “Would you expect anything else? We have to give him credit. He has a fantastic combative attitude. We have a great confidence in him.

“We are on alert in the market if something special turns up but we are not desperate.”

Asked if he would make another move for Liverpool striker Suarez, Wenger added: “We won’t approach for Suarez. He has signed a contract. [Nicklas] Bendtner is back [Lukas] Podolski is back.”

Giroud has won 80 headed duels so far this season, something strange for an Arsenal striker as the philosophy of the club is to play the ball on the ground.
