Could this dynamic forward get West Ham scoring for fun again?
West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce will make a move to recruit a new striker in the January transfer window should his side continue to struggle in front of goal, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Hammers have fired blanks so far this season with Carlton Cole, Ricardo Vaz Te, Modibo Maiga and Mladen Petric both failing to pose a consistent goalscoring threat while Andy Carroll is on the long-term injury list.
Chelsea outcast Demba Ba is targeted for a return to Upton Park, where he first joined the club in 2011 before leaving for Newcastle United six months later.
“We tried to get three top loan strikers who play in this country but we failed to get all three,” Allardyce told reporters. “They went elsewhere and played for another club and one stayed where he was.
“We will have to try again depending how Carlton and Mladen go before the end of January. If they come good and Andy gets back there will be no need for another striker.”
Allardyce is also thought to be running the rule over Heerenveen’s Icelandic striker Alfred Finnbogason and Benfica’s Paraguayan hit-man Oscar Cardozo.
West Ham have failed to score in six of their ten games so far this season, with a team shot accuracy average of 31 per cent.
