What does Antoine Griezmann's celebration mean?
Antoine Griezmann's career graph is going up with each passing day and the Frenchman has been one of the best players of Euro 2016 so far. Griezmann scored a brace against Germany in the semi-final of the tournament to propel France into the final where the hosts will face Portugal.
The Atletico man opened the scoring right at the end of the first half from the penalty spot after Bastian Schweinsteiger handled the ball inside the box.
Griezmann celebrated the goal by holding his hands has if he was on the phone and that's not the first time he has performed this celebration. So what exactly does his celebration mean?
After his second goal against Ireland in the first knockout stage of Euro 2016, Griezmann performed the same celebration and when he was asked about it, he had this to say:
"That's a dance from the video to Drake's Hotline Bling. I've been doing it when I score for Atlético and I should have done it when I scored against Albania, but the emotion was too much and I forgot about it. The same thing happened when I equalised against Ireland. For the second goal, I remembered."
Drake's hit video was notable for the rapper's out of the box dance steps and now the French star has given it more popularity with his celebration.
Griezmann is arguably the player of the tournament as he has scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists so far. His first goal of the tournament was against Albania in the group stage and he followed it up with an importance brace against the Republic of Ireland in the first knockout stage. He scored one goal against Iceland in the quarter-final and now has two more against the defending World Champions.
After scoring the opener against Germany from the spot, Griezmann doubled France's lead in the second half by poking the goal in the back of the net following a poor clearance from Manuel Neuer.
The 25-year-old is the leading goal scorer in Euro 2016 and has double the goals than his nearest competitors Cristiano Ronaldo, Olivier Giroud, Dimitri Payet, Nani, Alvaro Morata and Gareth Bale. However, four of them will be participating in the final on Sunday in Paris.
The finalists, France and Portugal, were on the losing side when they last played in a major cup final. For France, it was the final of the FIFA World Cup 2006 and for Portugal, it was the final of Euro 2004 which was held in Portugal.
This is the Hotline Bling song that inspired Griezmann’s celebration?
