Wojciech Szczesny explains his selfie stunt at White Hart Lane
After Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, goal-keeper Wojciech Szczesny joined by Kieran Gibbs and Lukas Podolski celebrated the win by clicking a selfie in front of the travelling fans at White Hart Lane.
The cheeky picture went viral on social networking websites, adding to the woes of Spurs, who had already lost the derby at White Hart Lane. The Polish stopper has defended himself, saying that he always intended to take it.
He said: “I asked Paul Johnson [Arsenal's equipment manager] to bring my phone on to the pitch after the game and grabbed a selfie with the Arsenal fans, which was brilliant.
“They were fantastic all afternoon. They sang their hearts out and I am sure they enjoyed themselves. It was fantastic for us too and we wanted to give something back to them.”
Yes !! Derby victory! Thanks to our fans for the amazing support! #afc #derby #selfie #coyg #fans… http://t.co/6NLjD36W9Z
