Wolfsburg admit interest in Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku
Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs confirmed the Bundesliga club’s interest in signing Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, as reported by Sky Sports.
Lukaku excelled in his two recent loan deals at West Bromwich Albion and Everton, yet Jose Mourinho is not thought to be willing to welcome the Belgian back into the Chelsea fold.
Atletico Madrid are rumoured to be chasing Lukaku as a replacement for the Stamford Bridge-bound Diego Costa, although it’s understood they would only be looking for a loan deal.
Given the Belgian’s stellar season with The Toffees – in which he netted on 15 occasions and assisted six times – it’s no surprise to see that Lukaku is one of the hot topics this transfer window.
Now Wolfsburg have joined his legion of admirers, with Allofs telling Wolfsburger Nachrichten of their pursuit of the player.
“We are to sign a striker this summer and we have to wait and see which deal will be feasible in the end.”
Questioned directly on the former Anderlecht man, he said: “Of course, but we also have other names in mind.”
