World's top 10 most expensive football transfers
With the January transfer window just around the corner, here is a list of the top ten most expensive transfers that shook the world of soccer!
1. Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United to Real Madrid, 2009, £80million
11 June 2009 became an important day in the history of football when Real Madrid announced that they have signed Portugese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for an astounding 80 million pounds, smashing the previous record of 56 million pounds that Real had paid days before for Kaka. Ronaldo reportedly earns 11 million euros per year with a buyout clause of a whopping 1 BILLION euros!
2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Inter Milan to Barcelona, 2009, £56.5million
After impressive performances in the Serie A with Inter Milan, Barcelona courted him out of the San Siro for a reported fee of 69 million euros in a deal that took Samuel Eto’o the other way. Even though he performed well on the pitch for Barca, his relationship with manager Pep Guardiola fell apart and he moved back to Milan and joined AC Milan for 24 million euros, thus resulting in a loss of more than 50 million euros for Barca, a figure which would have bought them a Fernando Torres!
