Xavi to leave Barcelona for the MLS?

Barcelona midfielder Xavier Hernandez is being linked with a move to the MLS.

Barcelona star Xavi could be leaving for Major League Soccer outfit New York Red Bulls after the conclusion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

According to Sky Sports News, Xavi has already accepted the move and  BEIn Sport correspondent Tancredi Palmeri wrote about it on Twitter.

Xavi, 33 has been with Barcelona since 1998 and was a key member of Spain’s national team that won the 2010 World Cup, the 2008 and 2012 European championships.

When asked about his future with Barcelona, Xavi was pretty skeptic about it while hinting that he could end his career elsewhere.

‘Being tied to Barcelona is a privilege, but I don’t know what will happen in the future,’ said Xavi.

Red Bulls has two deisgnated players right now in Tim Cahill and Thierry Henry, with one empty slot to be filled yet. The designated rules allow each MLS franchise to sign players that would be considered outside of the team’s salary cap (either by offering the player higher wages or by paying a transfer fee for the player), allowing MLS teams to compete for star players in the international transfer market.
