Xherdan Shaqiri claims Bayern Munich refused to sell him to Liverpool
Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri has claimed Liverpool tried to sign him before the FIFA World Cup in the summer. The Swiss midfielder is set to play against England in the Euro 2016 qualifier at Basel revealed that the move to Merseyside was scuppered by the German giants.
He had a good World Cup which included 2 Man-of-the-Match awards and a hat-trick against Honduras before being knocked out by Argentina.
“Liverpool made a bid for me before the World Cup but Bayern put their foot down and told me, ‘We’re not going to sell you’," he said.
Since his move to from Basel in 2012, Shaqiri has failed to be a regular member of the starting XI with Ribery, Gotze and Robben ahead of him in the pecking order.
That though doesn’t deter him from thinking about a contract extension.
“My contract runs until 2016 and I could possibly extend it. I will consider my decision during the winter break.”
