Rumours: Arsenal linked with outrageous double swoop for Premier League duo

Newcastle United duo Yohan Cabaye and Davide Santon linked with Arsenal

Reports suggest that Arsenal could be set to make a £30 million double swoop for Newcastle United duo Yohan Cabaye and Davide Santon.

The Gunners were keen on a move for Cabaye in the summer and the Metro report that they are likely to return with a January bid for Cabaye.

They also report that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is targeting Italy international full-back Santon, to provide cover for Bacary Sagna – an area in which he feels short due to doubts over the long-term future of the current Arsenal right-back .

Wenger reportedly failed with a £10 million bid for Cabaye in the summer, with Newcastle successfully holding onto the player despite the Frenchman’s desire to move south.

Arsenal instead signed free agent Mathieu Flamini to provide competition in central midfield area, but reports suggest that they are still keen on Cabaye. Wenger is said to hold concerns over the long term fitness of Jack Wilshere and sees Cabaye as a more attacking option than current central midfielder Mikel Arteta.

He is rumoured to be seeking to make his raid on Newcastle a double deal, with Santon also on Wenger’s transfer hit list. Gunners full back Sagna is out of contract in the summer and, whilst Arsenal would like to keep him, he is yet to sign a new deal after over a year of protracted negotiations.

Santon is believed to be seen by Wenger as providing depth in both full back positions and could be the long term successor should Sagna leave the club.

Yohan Cabaye has created 29 chances this season – more than any Arsenal player bar Mesut Ozil (45).
