"You dont win titles with such players", "Directly cost us 4pts in a title run" - Liverpool fans unhappy with star after 2-2 draw against West Ham
Liverpool fans are outraged with Jarell Quansah's performance in the Reds' 2-2 draw in their game against West Ham United on April 27 in the Premier League.
It was an afternoon to forget for the Englishman as he was directly involved in both the goals conceded by Liverpool against the Hammers. Quansah started the game for Jurgen Klopp's side with Ibrahim Konate benched.
West Ham were able to exert pressure on the Reds' back line towards the half-hour mark of the game.
Quansah lost the ball due to an ill-timed pass around the 42nd minute, conceding a corner through which the Hammers scored their first goal.
Klopp's men equalised in the 48th minute through an unlikely goal-scoring source, Andrew Robertson, before they took the lead in the 65th minute as Alphonse Aerola slotted one into his own net.
Just as the Reds were inching closer to their first Premier League win in the last three games, Quansah, tasked with keeping Michail Antonio at bay, lost him to give him a free header, allowing West Ham to equalise in the 77th minute.
Fans feel Klopp starting the 21-year-old in their crucial game cost them the title, which was already slipping away from their grasp. Here's how the fans reacted:
A fan commented:
"You guys don’t care about us. Quansah I’m talking to you."
Another fan said:
"Quansah has directly cost us 4pts in a title run and that’s unacceptable, I don’t care how young he is. Hopefully, the next manager is ruthless. Nunez, Gakpo, Szoboszlai and Gravenberch should not be playing for Liverpool."
A fan suggested that Quansah is good as a substitute player, iterating that starting him ahead of Konate was a bad move. Here's what they said:
"Quansah was preferred to Konate. This is the result you get. He is responsible for both goals. He played Antonio onside, and lost the ball to concede stupid corner for the first. You dont win titles with such players. Good enough for a subs role from the bench."
Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and Ibrahim Konate were benched for the game against the Hammers.
Liverpool suffer yet another blow in their pursuit of the Premier League title
The Reds won their first trophy in February when they clinched the Carabao Cup after defeating Chelsea at Wembley Stadium. However, their dreams of winning the Europa League ended with their 1-3 aggregate defeat to Atalanta.
Additionally, Klopp's men have been running low on fuel, and goals have been difficult to come by. They've failed to win their last three league matches. The draw against West Ham United came after two consecutive defeats, one against Crystal Palace and the other in the Merseyside derby.
Liverpool have 75 points after 35 Premier League games. Arsenal occupy the first spot on the table, with 77 points after 34 games. Manchester City are second with 76 points after 33 games.
The Reds will be hoping that both Arsenal and City drop points in their subsequent games, however, with their current form, that looks like an uphill task for them to even them ascend to the top.
