Doom is on the horizon in Fortnite, but it’s not what you’d expect

Fortnite has become a hub for multiple universes and franchises to come together and expand their horizons. The game's Creative mode plays a huge part in fusing different genres with the game's base mechanics. When used right, the mode is undoubtedly powerful, and in tandem with the Unreal Editor, it can open the gateways for accurate recreations of classic video games such as Doom.

This is exactly what X user @JKClayton_FN has been able to emulate. The player took to the social media platform to share their surprisingly precise and detailed version of Doom (1993), designed entirely within the Unreal Editor. The creation is absolutely breathtaking as it emulates every aspect of the classic shooter with pinpoint accuracy, ranging from movement to environment design.

While the design of the Island itself is nothing short of remarkable, the creator extended the look of the map even further, employing the classic Doom UI that looks ripped straight out of the original 1993 game. The player even showcased an in-game model of Doomguy, the protagonist from the original game, donning his bright green armor in all his pixelated glory.

With everything that the map has going for it, there is no doubt that it would be a dream for any player to hop into it and get a fresh dose of nostalgia. However, as explained by the map creator, there is little to no chance that the Doom map will be published and make its way to the Discover menu.

This is due to the map's extreme resemblance to the original 1993 game which could raise copyright issues if published. However, this also speaks to the accuracy of @JKClayton_FN's recreation of Doom within the Creative mode. The map creator revealed they only took on to learn about Materials and post-processing, important aspects that play a part in the Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

As good as the Doom map is, it is quite unfortunate that it will potentially never be published to the Discover menu. While certain members of the community have suggested that the player release the map by reskinning the environments and characters, the creator has yet to express any further interest in doing so.

It appears that, at least for the time being, Doom fans will have to make do with the Doom Slayer Outfit to showcase their love for the game.
