"I’m quitting Fortnite after this news": Community outraged over the return of the Renegade Raider to the Item Shop

The legendary Renegade Raider skin is back in Fortnite, leaving some in the community with a bitter taste in its mouth. This is because some cosmetics, like the Aerial Trooper or the original variant of the Raider, are considered OG skins, standing out as a badge of honor for the earliest players who supported the game in its heyday.

After leaks regarding the arrival of the Outfit made their way to social media, the entire gaming community was abuzz, with some cheering on for the opportunity to get their hands on this outfit while a majority of them were not too pleased:

Reacting to the possible return of the outfit, many showed their obvious disapproval of this decision. User @PickensBurgh stated that he would be quitting the game after this news:

"I’m quitting Fortnite after this news. Goodbye"

Many were rather disappointed with an outfit that was considered exclusive among many players who supported and played the game back in 2017. However, this has given rise to a lot of these games being called "gatekeepers" — ones who do not wish the majority to have exclusive items. Nevertheless, some of them were not happy:

Meanwhile, a message seems to be circulating on social media where players urge others not to purchase the Renegade Raider skins out of respect for the OG players. While the origin of the message is unknown, it was widely reposted on the social media platform X:

"PLEASE Don’t buy the Renegade skin if you respect OG Fortnite players. It’s more than a skin; it’s a symbol of their early commitment and grind. Let them keep their exclusivity. Show your respect by appreciating its rarity, not owning it. Some things are better left untouched."

Meanwhile, user @THEGODMODMLG opined that they will stop playing Fortnite since Epic Games has given new generation players a skin that "belonged" to them:

While a majority of the community is unhappy with the now-released outfit, others are delighted to have a chance to enjoy one of the rarest Fortnite skins. It comes as no surprise that the return of the legendary Renegade Raider has caused such an uproar.

The Renegade Raider is one of the most legendary skins to debut in the Season 1 seasonal store. It was last seen in the Item Shop over 2500 days — or seven years — ago, until it made a surprise return on December 20, 2024, as part of the OG season shop.

It was virtually impossible for players to get their hands on the outfit after it left the season shop in 2017. The rarity of the outfit, marking the original days of Fortnite, has made it one of the most popular in the game. Now, with its return in the Item Shop, players will get another chance to cop this legendary skin.
