The Fortnite downtime today (September 4, 2024) will begin at 4 am ET. This will be the first major update for Chapter 5 Season 4 (Absolute Doom). Epic Games has officially dubbed this as the v31.10 update. Despite this being the first major update, no information has been revealed about what we could see added to the game.
The only certainty is that the servers will be taken offline half an hour before the Fortnite downtime today (September 4, 2024) starts. Maintenance will begin at exactly 4 am ET and conclude by 9 am ET. This timeline is based on the information provided by Epic Games but is subject to change if other technical issues should arise.
If you are still in-game and would like to remain until the servers are taken offline, you can explore new LEGO Fortnite seeds. Walk around new worlds and earn some playtime XP. Alternatively, you can look to hit up the Creative mode as well. In both modes, if you are booted mid-game, you won't lose out on progress, and XP will be awarded the next time you log in.

As mentioned earlier, the Fortnite downtime today (September 4, 2024) is slated to last a total of five hours from 4 am to 9 am ET. However, keep in mind that things could end sooner if maintenance wraps up beforehand. The timeline provided by Epic Games is not always exact.
In most scenarios, maintenance ends before the given time, and servers are brought online. Epic Games will provide an update via their blog when the servers are online at full capacity. You should be able to access servers before the official announcement, but they may not function at full capacity as they take time to revert to normal.
Content changes for Fortnite update v31.10
Unfortunately, Epic Games has revealed nothing regarding new content in an official capacity. The long-awaited LEGO Fortnite Klombo update will not go live once the Fortnite downtime today (September 4, 2024) ends. It will likely be added to the game during the v31.20 update.
That said, there are a few Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 (v31.10 update) early patch notes that will provide an idea of what to expect.
