Fortnite leak suggests upcoming Boss "Puppeteer" will 'Haunt' players in Chapter 6
According to the latest Fortnite leak, an upcoming boss for Chapter 6, codenamed "Puppeteer," will be able to 'Haunt' players in-game. The information was brought to light by Egyptian_Leaker, who is well-known within the community for sharing details regarding NPCs and other finer aspects of the game.
Epic Games is apparently taking inspiration for the upcoming boss from Japanese folklore. With the upcoming theme of Chapter 6 Season 1 allegedly revolving around Samurai and Japanese Mythology, it seems rather fitting. That said, the boss in question could likely be a Yūrei.
Fortnite leak hints at the arrival of Yūrei boss
As mentioned by Egyptian_Leaker, the upcoming boss is codenamed "Puppeteer". While not much can be derived from that, the leaker stated that the character can teleport using a mask and will 'Haunt' players. Based on what we know about the upcoming theme for Chapter 6 Season 1, the boss could a Yūrei.

In Japanese folklore, a Yūrei can be compared to the concept of ghosts in Western culture. They are often thought to be spirits that could not attain a peaceful afterlife. Unless the spirit is appeased by either a ritual or by adding in their quest to resolve some conflict or task left incomplete, they will continue to roam the physical plane.
Likewise in Fortnite, this Yūrei Boss may be tied to the island due to something that has been left unresolved. Thus, when players comes into contact with it, it will 'Haunt' them even after being defeated.
Given the game mechanics, players may be able to complete a certain task to help the Yūrei attain peace and stop it from haunting them. Perhaps they could also perform a ritual that could likely consist of them interacting with shrines to help free the Yūrei. As mentioned, the supposed theme for the upcoming season would contain all these aforementioned.
Coming to the 'Haunt' mechanic, when a player is being haunted, they could receive some debuff that would cause them to lose the edge in combat. It would be interesting to see this mechanic in action as Epic Games always pushes the envelope when it comes to innovation.
What could the Yūrei boss look like in Chapter 6 Season 1?
While the Fortnite leak does not provide any pictorial reference, thanks to folklore, we do have a good idea of what the Yūrei boss could look like. Based on the information provided on Wikipedia, we know that Yūrei tend to wear white clothing and have black hair.
Their hands dangle lifelessly from their waist, held outstretched with the elbows near the body. As for the legs and feet, they typically lack both and often appear to float in the air. They are also accompanied by a pair of floating flames or will o' the wisps, Hitodama, in Japanese.

Of course, Epic Games is bound to take creative liberties when interpreting Yūrei for the game, but the character should still retain a lot of its Japanese originality. That said, hopefully, more Fortnite leaks about this boss surface before it gets added to the game. It would be nice to see what the developers have planned for what is to come.
