“Would buy this just for the Lobby Music”: Community reacts to Fortnite Super Smash Bros. concept
Fortnite Super Smash Bros. is an idea that has been floating around the community for a long time, with players constantly hoping for elements from Nintendo's massive crossover franchise to come to the game. While Nintendo and Epic Games have yet to agree on a potential collaboration, it has not stopped players from conceptualizing the possibilities this crossover could present.
Such is the case with a recent Reddit post shared by u/IllTemperedMaggot, where the player showcased a vast range of concepts for cosmetics revolving around the Fortnite Super Smash Bros. theme. This included items like the Smash Ball Back Bling, Galeem vs. Dharkon Item Wrap, and English + Japanese Lifelight Lobby Music and Jam Track.
The Reddit post featuring the Fortnite Super Smash Bros. concept ignited a flurry of reactions from the Fortnite community, with Redditor u/Megazard02 expressing their interest in the Lifelight Lobby Music + Jam Track and stating:
“Would buy this just for the Lobby Music”
Other members took to the comments to chime in on not only the concept but also the discussion around a possible Fortnite Super Smash Bros. collaboration. u/shxrdzyy expressed how, while the cosmetics featured in the concept would be great to see in-game, Nintendo probably wouldn't allow for it. This is in reference to the recent explanation behind why Samus Aran x Fortnite never happened, owing to Nintendo's terms of exclusivity.
Meanwhile, Redditor u/tayhorix conveyed their desire to see every song from the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate soundtrack turned into Fortnite Lobby Music. u/Top-Dinner9131, on the other hand, highlighted how a Fortnite Super Smash Bros. collaboration would be almost poetic due to the highly collaborative nature of both games.
Is there a possibility for a Fortnite Super Smash Bros. collaboration?
While the concept displayed in the Reddit post is ambitious and could work within Fortnite, it does depend on whether Nintendo will budge when it comes to its terms of exclusivity. For those unaware, it was recently revealed by Donald Mustard that the reason why characters like Samus Aran and Mario have not been added to Fortnite is because Nintendo wanted the skins to be visible only on the Nintendo Switch.
This form of exclusivity did not sit right with Epic Games, and it has rendered franchises like Pokemon unable to be added to Fortnite. Owing to these circumstances, it seems unlikely that Nintendo would be open to discussing a Fortnite Super Smash Bros. collaboration, given the brand power and value it holds.
