Latest Pokémon Legends: Z-A rumor hints at big surprise regarding new mega evolutions

The Pokémon community is ablaze with excitement over a recent leak that suggests 27 brand-new Mega Evolutions could be introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. While The Pokémon Company is yet to confirm this, the speculation has fans eagerly anticipating what could be the biggest expansion of the Mega Evolution mechanic since its debut in Pokémon X and Y.

The rumor comes from well-known leaker Pyoro, who cryptically posted the number “27” on social media. Fans quickly speculated that this was a reference to the number of new Mega Evolutions.

Centro Leaks, another credible source for Pokémon-related leaks, later backed up this claim. Though still unconfirmed, the idea of 27 new Mega Evolutions has ignited major discussion in the Pokémon community.

Mega Evolution has been a fan-favorite mechanic since its introduction, allowing certain Pokémon to transform mid-battle for a significant stat boost and a design overhaul. However, much to the disappointment of longtime players, it was largely phased out in later games.

With Pokémon Legends: Z-A bringing it back, fans are excited to see which Pokémon will receive these powerful new forms.

If the leaks hold true, the new Mega Evolutions might not be limited to older Pokémon.

The franchise now boasts over 1,000 species, leaving plenty of possibilities. Some Pokémon that were rumored to receive Mega Evolutions in past games but were scrapped could finally get their moment.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s starters like Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile, are prime candidates for new Mega forms, continuing the trend of giving signature evolutions to starter Pokémon.

Other possible mega evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Another major reveal from the leak is the potential Mega Evolution for Excadrill, a popular Ground/Steel-type Pokémon from Pokémon Black and White.

If true, this could be a significant nod to the Unova region, as recent Pokémon games have been revisiting past generations with new mechanics and forms.

A Mega Excadrill could bring major changes to its abilities, potentially altering its typing or battle style.

Other rumored additions include Mega Evolutions for Victreebel and Zygarde.

Victreebel, a classic Gen 1 Pokémon, was allegedly set to receive an alternate evolution in Pokémon Gold and Silver, but the idea was scrapped. Meanwhile, Zygarde, a Legendary Pokémon from Pokémon X and Y, could receive a Mega Evolution that further expands on its transformation-heavy lore.

If Pokémon Legends: Z-A delivers on these rumored Megas, it could set a new precedent for future Pokémon titles, potentially reestablishing Mega Evolution as a core battle mechanic.

While these leaks remain unverified, anticipation for Pokémon Legends: Z-A continues to build. With the game slated for a late 2025 release, official reveals in the coming months will likely confirm or debunk these rumors.
