AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT vs Ryzen 7 5800X3D: Which could be the best gaming CPU?
The AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT and the Ryzen 7 5800X3D are Team Red's primary offerings in the mid-range market. They have multiple positives, including dirt-cheap AM4 motherboards and affordable DDR4 memory, to name a few. If you're coming from a Ryzen 3000 series chip, you won't have to spend an extra penny on other hardware, which makes them lucrative purchases.
The latest launch from Team Red, the 5800XT, will hit the shelves this July. This marks AM4's lifespan at seven years. This is impressive given Intel's track record — LGA 1700 is being ditched within three and half years since its launch in late 2020.

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D and the 5800XT are supposed to be closely related, with both featuring eight-core chips based on the Zen 3 architecture. However, as the name suggests, the 5800X3D has the added benefits of 3D V-cache.
Specs comparison
Specs differences between the two processors are quite scant. For the most part, you get a similar package with the two eight-core chips. However, the new 5800XT clocks 300 MHz higher than the older 3D CPU.
The biggest con of the 5800X3D is the lack of overclocking support, as AMD CPUs are renowned for their robust OC performance. AMD decided to axe this feature with their first 3D V-cache offering because of unstable clock speed responses when paired with the new technology. However, these restrictions have been removed with the 7000X3D chips and are expected to completely vanish with the upcoming 9000X3D lineup.

Performance comparison
The Ryzen 7 5800XT and the Ryzen 7 5800X3D are quite close to each other in terms of performance in synthetic benchmarks. However, thanks to the 3D V-cache, the 5800X3D pulls off a lead in most video games.

Do note that these synthetic tests can't accurately measure the performance of X3D chips in video games because of their unique architecture. These numbers can be slightly misleading in that regard.
The Ryzen 7 5800X, 5800XT, and 5800XT are quite similar in terms of performance. The main difference between these chips is price-to-performance. Despite being a couple of generations old, the X3D-rated processor hasn't been as handsomely discounted as some other AMD processors. You have to pay over $330 for the chip.
For those upgrading from an older CPU, the 5800XT can be a lucrative choice. Unlike the X3D alternative, this processor will be unlocked. Moreover, it's priced competitively at $249, which is a steal compared to the 5800X3D, which is still selling for $338 at Newegg.
However, if you are chasing for better gaming performance, I recommend checking out the newer Ryzen 5 7600 and Ryzen 5 9600X which can outperform the Ryzen 7 thanks to improvements in IPC counts and single-core numbers.
