iOS 18.0.1 released with a fix for iPhone touchscreen issues

Apple released a new update to iOS 18 called iOS 18.0.1 just two weeks after the release of the new system update. It mainly targets fixing some critical bugs and security flaws of the existing OS, such as the touchscreen issues that users have been facing. Unlike other iOS updates, it brings no new feature to the table.

This article explains everything you need to know about this new update.

Here are all the bug fixes included in this iOS 18 update:

  • The frozen or unresponsive touchscreen issues that many owners of the iPhone 16 series were facing.
  • The camera freezing issue when the user tried recording macro mode videos in 4K resolution with HDR settings turned off. This issue affected the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models.
  • The Messages app used to close unexpectedly when a user tried replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face.
  • A security flaw where the microphone indicator would show up a few seconds later when the recording had started already.
  • Another security bug that allowed VoiceOver apps to read the saved passwords aloud.

While Apple has fixed all these issues, the most notable fix is the touchscreen issue, which affected all iPhone 16 models. The touch issue was near the new Camera Control button, which was either triggered by pressing the button itself or unlocking the phone.

However, there's another critical issue that has not been fixed with this update. Many users complained that the Apple Music app was repeatedly pausing/freezing a piece of music, and a fix to this issue is not in this release. It could be fixed with the upcoming iOS 18.1 update.

Known issues in this update

Apple has reported that there could be some performance issues. It's due to a memory leak that was introduced when fixing the security bugs. The memory leak is also expected to be fixed with the next iOS 18.1 update.
