Latest leaks reveal Valve working on a Steam Controller 2 and new VR controller

If the latest rumors are to be believed, Steam Controller 2 will be a reality soon. Valve released the original Steam Controller back in 2015 but discontinued it in 2019. Since then, we have had no word about a successor for this device. But now, the codename for the alleged upcoming successor is out.

This article will cover all the leaks related to Steam Controller 2 on the internet. But readers are advised to take this information with a grain of salt until any official confirmation from Valve.

Steam Controller 2 codename and renders leaked online

According to industry insider Brad Lynch, Valve is working on Steam Controller 2 and next-gen controllers for Valve's new VR headset. The renders for the device were leaked in the latest SteamVR update. Looking at the renders, the successor of the Steam Controller shares a resemblance to the Steam Deck.

The leaked renders show the device along with two analog sticks, two trackpads, eight buttons in front, four shoulder buttons and a d-pad. While the back of the device is not visible in the leaked render, there is still a high chance it may have rear buttons.

Brad Lynch also revealed the codename for Steam Controller 2 is Ibex. Furthermore, he stated the device is being prepped for mass production, claiming the product is in its final stages.

Apart from the successor of Steam Controller, Brad Lynch also revealed a lot about Valve’s upcoming VR headset, codenamed Deckard. The renders of the latter's controllers are also on the internet. From the looks of the renders, the controllers will have four face buttons and a thumb button on each hand.

The dataminer revealed that Valve had set “freetodownload” on the SteamVR app in order to grant access to anonymous accounts. But this made all the renders for Steam Controller 2 and the VR headset and controllers accessible to dataminers, leading to the leaks.

However, there is still no official confirmation from Valve's end for these two devices. Readers are advised to wait for any official announcement from Valve and take everything with a grain of salt.
