Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti vs AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT: Which is the best gaming GPU?

The Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti and the AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT are fighting head-to-head this generation. Both cards are designed for a premium 1080p gaming experience with no compromises. You can also play most games comfortably at QHD resolutions with little performance issues. Both GPU makers have bundled their cards with unique sets of strengths, that make them equally lucrative.

Which GPU should you buy? Let's find that out in this article.

The RTX 4060 Ti and 7600 XT are based on wildly different architectures — the Nvidia card uses Ada Lovelace while the AMD relies on RDNA 3. A specs comparison will not reveal anything definitive about the GPUs' performance. Nevertheless, let's still revise them for an idea of what to expect from them.

Specs comparison

Both the 4060 Ti and the RX 7600 XT are based on severely cut-down GPUs. While the Nvidia card uses the AD104, the 7600 XT is based on the slightly bigger Navi 33.

In terms of VRAM, the 4060 Ti is offered in 8 GB and 16 GB options. The latter is priced astonishingly high and will cost you $499. The cheaper option is still quite pricey for a mid-range card, at $399. In contrast, the 7600 XT ships with 16 GB of memory, and is available at $329.

Gaming performance is the deal breaker for GPUs. According to theoretical numbers, the RX 7600 XT is a bit faster than the 2080 while the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB delivers as much performance as the RTX 2080 Ti. We are looking at a 17% difference between them.

Below is a comparison of the 16 GB variants of the two GPUs. The Nvidia card takes a 16.64% lead on average, which isn't large enough to justify the $170 price gap between the two. However, that difference was highlighted in several titles which were unplayable with AMD card. The 7600 XT struggled to keep up 30 FPS in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Alan Wake 2, and Remnant 2.

We sourced the numbers from Testing Games.

The 8 GB RTX 4060 Ti card seems to be an even worse deal when compared to the RX 7600 XT. The cheaper AMD card came out as 11.4% faster than the 4060 Ti. We sourced the numbers from the YouTube channel RTX 4090.

Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti vs AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT: Final verdict

While Nvidia offers better ray tracing performance and support for DLSS 3 with frame generation, the 4060 cards can be quite expensive. The 8 GB variant is priced at $399, with the 16 GB card going for $499. AMD, on the other hand, has competitive pricing for the 7600 XT at just $329. However, it loses in ray tracing and FSR's output image quality is worse than DLSS.

The RX 7600 XT is barely faster than the last-gen RX 6650 XT. That said, given the RDNA 2 card is selling for under $300 these days, it makes sense to opt for it if you're seriously looking to save some money.

On the other hand, if you want the Tensor cores for machine learning, and the improved DLSS 3 upscaling technology with frame generation, the 4060 Ti might be the better option for you.

But, I would urge you to buy the RX 6700 XT/6750 XT cards that sell for around $315-350 these days while bundling more rendering prowess than both these current-generation GPUs.
