Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs Motorola Razr+: Which is the better foldable smartphone?
Samsung and Motorola are reviving the world of foldable phones with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Motorola Razr+. Both of these devices are quite different from standard phones and each other. One folds while the other flips, so their screens have a slightly different orientation that's good for slightly different purposes as well.
Seeing so many differences, it can be difficult to choose one among the two. And it's not just the design, but also the specs that are very contrasting. However, neither is directly better than the other, which makes this quite an interesting comparison.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs Motorola Razr+: Specifications
Right off the bat, you can see below that the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Motorola Razr+ are very different and that goes in terms of both design and internal hardware.
You can see that they feature slightly different chipsets and of course, very different camera lenses. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a total of three cameras which are also better in terms of resolution when compared to the Razr+. All of these extra features also make it way more expensive as the Z Fold 6 starts at $1899 while the latter comes at a fixed price and configuration of $999.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs Motorola Razr+: Performance
As seen above, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor which is better than the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in the Motorola Razr+. While they feature the same number of cores, the 8 Gen 3 processor is just better for gaming, multitasking, and high-res photography, making the Z Fold 6 the more performant phone.
The numbers do speak for themselves and as you can see, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on the Galaxy Fold is far better than the chipset in the Razr+. This doesn't just equate to gaming, but also to multitasking, video editing, and more.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs Motorola Razr+: Camera
Camera quality is another field where the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 shines as it not only has more cameras but also greater resolution compared to the Motorola Razr+. Samsung's folding phone features a triple camera setup with a 50MP main sensor while the latter comes with two 50MP cameras.
Both cameras perform quite well in good lighting conditions, but low-light shots aren't that great on either. The clarity of the Razr+ is certainly more prominent because of the dual 50MP cameras. However, when it comes to colors, Samsung takes the cake as it captures extremely vibrant-looking pictures, even at night.
The video quality on both phones is quite similar at 4K, but the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is capable of shooting at 8K as well, which is huge for a foldable phone. Even on video, Samsung tends to be more vibrant whereas Motorola seems to have much more sharpness and clarity.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs Motorola Razr+: Display
Apart from the performance, both devices have different form factors as well. You see, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 expands horizontally while the Motorola Razr+ opens vertically. One is a folding phone and the other is a flip phone, so they serve slightly different purposes.
Galaxy Z Fold 6: The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a 6.3" display when folded, but once you expand the screen, it becomes a large, almost square-shaped 7.6" display. While you can play games on the cover screen, playing on the expanded display is a different experience. This becomes apparent when it comes to racing games and first-person shooters, as the larger screen does come in handy.
However, watching movies on the big screen isn't all that fun, as you see black bars on the edges which can be quite distracting. So you're better off watching on the cover screen.
Razr+: The Razr+ on the other hand is a flip phone and doesn't really focus on providing a large display. It's just more of an advanced smartphone that's also quite portable. When folded, the display is 4.0" and when opened, it comes to about 6.9", which is quite large. By large here, we mean a more vertically elongated display, which makes it perfect for watching videos and movies.
You can play games on the smaller display, but it's more enjoyable on the larger screen. The folded display is only practical when it comes to glancing through messages, viewing the map, or even watching videos in small form.
