The Chengdu Open is an ATP-250 level tournament played annually in China. The men’s competition played on outdoor hardcourts was added to the tennis calendar in 2016. The event replaced the ATP Malaysian Open and features top players every season despite being a 250 series.

The 2024 Chengdu Open will be the sixth edition of the tournament. The matches are played at the Sichuan International Tennis Center in Chengdu, China. Unfortunately, the Chengdu Open did not take place between 2020 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2024 Chengdu Open will be played between 18-24 September 2024. Alexander Zverev is the defending champion, beating Roman Safiullin in the 2023 final. The prize money commitment for the competition exceeds $1 million, as of 2024.

Chengdu Open History

Having debuted in 2016, the Chengdu Open is one of four stops in China during the ATP’s Asian swing. It was started as a replacement for the ATP tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The likes of Karen Khachanov and Bernard Tomic have won the tournament in the past, along with defending champion Alexander Zverev.

Between 2016-2024, Chengdu has hosted six events. There was no tournament between 2020-2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, nobody has been able to defend their title at this event.

Chengdu Open 2024 Venue

The Chengdu Open is played at the Sichuan International Tennis Center in Chengdu, China. The venue boasts modern infrastructure and has a total of 20 hardcourts as well as 12 indoor courts.

While the Centre Court has a capacity of 6,000 seats, two additional show courts can seat 2,000 people each.

Chengdu Open 2024 Defending Champions

In men’s singles, Alexander Zverev is the reigning champion at the Chengdu Open. He won the title in 2023, defeating Roman Safiullin of Russia 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 in the final. No player has successfully defended their Chengdu crown.

Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul won the men’s doubles trophy in 2023. They beat Francisco Cabral and Rafael Matos 4-6 7-5 [10-7] in the final. There is no multiple-time champion at Chengdu in doubles.
