About Deodhar Trophy

The Deodhar Trophy is a List-A domestic fifty-over competition annually conducted in India, having first started in the 1973-74 season. Initially conducted between the five different zonal sides – North, South, East, West and Central until the 2014-15 domestic season, the BCCI brought about a tweak in its format from the following year.

Until a change was brought about, the two worst performers from the preceding season of the Deodhar Trophy first played out a virtual quarter-final amongst themselves, the winner of which progressed to the semi-final, where the remaining three teams awaited them. Following that, both winners of the semi-finals would make it to the final, where the eventual victors would be decided. The 2014-15 domestic calendar, the last time when this structure was followed, saw the East Zone emerge victorious by beating West Zone in the final.

However, in the altered format from the 2015-16 season onwards, there were only three participating teams in the form of India A and India B, the squads of which were picked by the BCCI, and the winners of the Vijay Hazare Trophy of that season. The VIjay Hazare Trophy is the 50 over List-A competition between all the states.
