About IRE vs PAK

In Ireland, cricket has been played for more than 200 years but it was the year 1969, when they made the rest of the world to take true notice when they bowled out one of the strongest side, West Indies, for just 25 runs in a televised match at Sion Mills.

Since then, Ireland have established themselves during the course of several World Cups, recording one-day international wins over, the West Indies, Pakistan and England and caught everyone’s attention with some brilliant performances.

In June last year, Ireland and Afghanistan were given Test status, when they became the 11th and 12th full members of the International Cricket Council respectively. Since then, Cricket Ireland has been looking for suitable opponents for an historic first match.

In May 2018, Ireland's first Test match will be played against Pakistan on home soil after an agreement between the two countries was reached during the International Cricket Council meeting in Auckland.

Pakistan is currently seventh in the Test rankings but were top of the Test match rankings as recently as last year before slipping back after the retirement of captain Misbah-ul-Haq and senior batsman Younis Khan.

CEO of Cricket Ireland, Warren Deutrom expressed his delightment that Ireland's debut Test match will be played at home and thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board in being Ireland's first Test opponent.

Ireland’s first ever historic Test cricket match will be played from Friday 11th May to Tuesday 15th May with Malahide Cricket Club Ground announced as the venue. The match will take place ahead of Pakistan's Test series against England.
