About Ranji Trophy
The Ranji Trophy is a cricket tournament held in India. The competition will be in its 87th season in 2022. The Ranji Trophy is India's main first-class cricket competition. The event is divided into two stages, with the league stage taking place from February 17 to March 15, 2022, and the knockout stage taking place from May 30 to June 26, 2022. Saurashtra had already won the prestigious Ranji Trophy. The tournament's previous edition, the 2020-21 edition, was cancelled owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Players will have to undergo a mandatory five-day quarantine period. As per ANI, each Ranji Trophy team squad will have a maximum of 30 members. Out of the 30, there has to be a minimum of 20 players. The rest can be the management and support staff members.

Teams
There are a total of 38 teams divided into nine groups. Group A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H have four teams each and Plate Group have 6 teams in it. The groups have been decided based on the team's performance in the previous edition of the Trophy.

Format
League stage
In Ranji 2022, a total of 65 matches will be played. Each team will play one match against every other team in their group during the League stage. There are nine groups in total, including eight Elite groups with four teams each and a plate group with six teams.
Knockout Stage
The Knockout stage will have seven matches, four quarterfinals, two semifinals and the final. The knockout matches will start from 30 May 2022 and the final will be played from 22 - 26 June 2022.
New Change
The BCCI has agreed to use a limited DRS system for this edition of the tournament in the knockout stage. The limited DRS system will not use Hawk-Eye and UltraEdge
