About Sri Lanka Women vs England Women 2023
The England women’s cricket is scheduled to play against Sri Lanka women’s cricket team in March 2019. The tour consists of three Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs) and three Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20) matches.
The series will kick-off with the WODIS series with the first match being played on 16 March 2019 at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota. The second WODI will be played at the same stadium two days later on 18 March 2019. The WODI series will conclude with the third match at Air Force Ground, Katunayake on 21 March 2019. The three-match WT20I series will start from 24 March 2019 at Colts Cricket Club Ground, Colombo. The same stadium will host the second WT20I on 26 March 2019. The tour will end with the third and final WT20I being played at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo on 28 March 2019.
England will be looking forward to this series as a chance to test their squad before their series against West Indies later this year which will be crucial for the English side in order to qualify for the 2021 Women’s Cricket World Cup through the 2017-2020 ICC Women’s Championship. Sri Lanka is at the last place in the Women’s Championship having lost all the three series they played as a part of the Championship.
England would be coming into this series after defeating the New Zealand women’s team by 2-1 in July 2018. They would also be playing 3 WODIs and WT20 against the Indian team in February and March 2019. Whereas the Sri Lankan will be coming into the series being whitewashed 3-0 by the South African team in the tour which formed part of the 2017-2020 ICC Women’s Championship. The Lankans would really love to return to the winning ways but the mighty English side can prove to be a big hurdle for them.
