The Texas Children's Houston Open was originally called the "Houston Open" when it was established back in 1946. It was won by Byron Nelson, who defeated Ben Hogan by two strokes at the River Oaks Country Club. Over the years, the event has changed venues and sponsors.
In 1947, the event was played at the Memorial Park. In the following years, it was relocated to various venues before moving back to the renovated Memorial Park in 2020. In the past five years, the various title sponsors of the event were Vivint in 2020, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise in 2021, Cadence Bank in 2022, and the Texas Children's Hospital in 2024.

The Texas Children's Houston Open has been held at the Memorial Park Municipal Golf Course in Houston, Texas, since 2021. The course has been run by the Memorial Park Conservancy since 1924. It was first designed by Kansas City, Missouri-based landscape architects Hare & Hare.
The golf course has a slope rating of 130 and a course rating of 75.0. Over 70 years after its founding, it underwent renovations in 1995 under Tom Doak. Furthermore, the park offers several facilities for volleyball, track, swimming, and tennis, among others.
