Women's National Cricket League 2023

The Women's National Cricket League or as it is usually abbreviated, the WNCL is an Australian Women's Domestic One-Day Competition. Established in 1996, the tournament is administered by Cricket Australia. The format of the tournament is round robin followed by a finals series. The matches are of One-day format (50 overs per innings).

Cricket Australia released the original schedule on July 21, 2021, with the season starting on September 23, 2021, and the final on March 6, 2022. However, it was confirmed on September 8, 2021, that the season would not begin until December 16, 2021, following the completion of WBB 07, due to lockdowns in Sydney and Melbourne and resulting border restrictions.

On 4 January 2022, 6 January 2022, 8 January 2022, and 11 February 2022, additional COVID-related schedule modifications were reported, including the postponement of the final first to 18 March 2022 and then to 25 March 2022.

The current champions, that is the champions of the 2020-21 edition of Women's National Cricket League are the Queensland. The NSW Breakers are also the most successful team in the history of the tournament, winning the Championship for a total of 18 times.

Australia Women's National Cricket League

A total of seven teams participate in the tournament. Initially during the early seasons, the team finishing at the top of the table after the preliminary rounds used to earn the right to host the best-of-three finals series. However, since 2007–08, the finals series as reduced to a single match as Twenty20 matches were introduced. The winner of the finals series is presented with the Ruth Preddey Cup.

Women's National Cricket League History

The first edition of the WNCL took place in 1996–97. The Women's National Cricket League replaced the Australian Women's Cricket Championships. The latter was a two-week tournament format which was established in 1930–31. However the trophy, The Ruth Preddey Cup has been continued to the WNCL from the Australian Women's Cricket Championships. It was presented to those championships in 1972–73.
