2024 Olympics Golf playoff format: Rules and all you need to know

At the 2024 Olympics in Paris, golf fans will be treated to some great action featuring the biggest names in the sport. While the men's golf will begin on August 1 and conclude on August 4, the women will play between August 7th and August 10th. This action will take place at the Le National Golf course in Paris, France.

Ahead of the 2024 Olympics, golf fans have several questions related to the tournament. One such question is about the playoff format and rules. After four rounds of golf, if two or more players finish at the top of the leaderboard, then those players will play an additional playoff hole to break the tie.

In case the players are tied after playing the first playoff hole, then a second playoff hole will be played. This shall continue until a winner is crowned. The playoff rule mentioned above is not only applicable to a gold medal, but also to golfers who could potentially be in contention for silver and bronze medals.

The last time golf at the Olympics witnessed a playoff situation was in 2021. At the time, C.T. Pan from Chinese Tapei played four holes to win the bronze medal in what was a seven-man showdown. It will be interesting to see if the 2024 Olympics features another playoff situation.
