3 top candidates to replace Keegan Bradley for the Presidents Cup vice-captain spot
This week, US team captain Jim Furyk chose Keegan Bradley as one of his captain's picks for the upcoming Presidents Cup. Bradley was also the vice-captain for the side.
While he can take on both roles if he wishes to, Furyk wants the 38-year-old golfer to focus as a player. Thus, Bradley has stepped down from the post of vice-captain, leaving the spot vacant, and will solely be seen as a US player at the tournament. This could also serve as a good experience for the 2024 BMW Championship winner, who will step into the captain's role at the 2025 Ryder Cup.
With the Presidents Cup set to begin in less than a month (September 24-29), Jim Furyk has started the hunt for a new vice-captain. While the 2018 Ryder Cup captain already has Kevin Kisner, Stewart Cink, and Justin Leonard to assist him, he is in search of his fourth assistant.
The replacement will be made soon. Whoever is chosen has some big shoes to fill. Here's a look at the top three candidates who can replace Keegan Bradley at the Presidents Cup.
Top 3 candidates who can replace Keegan Bradley as vice-captain at the Presidents Cup
1) Davis Love III
Davis Love III led the US team to victory at the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow, Charlotte, in a landslide win of 17.5-12.5. The 60-year-old has also captained the Ryder Cup teams twice, in 2012 and 2016. The US won the latter edition. With 21 PGA Tour titles to his name, Love is a good choice for the vice-captain's role at the Presidents Cup this year.
2) Matt Kuchar
Matt Kuchar was a part of the 2019 Presidents Cup winning team. He has five Presidents Cup and four Ryder Cup appearances so far. The 46-year-old also has nine PGA Tour titles to his name. With the level of experience he has at the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup, he is a contender for the role of vice-captain this year.
3) Steve Stricker
Steve Stricker led the 2017 Presidents Cup team to a one-sided victory of 19-11 at Liberty National in New Jersey. He also captained the 2021 Ryder Cup-winning team at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin, where the US had a landslide victory of 19-9. Stricker has six Presidents Cup and four Ryder Cup appearances to his name. The 12-time PGA Tour winner has a great chance of being selected as the vice-captain this year.
The Presidents Cup will be held from September 24-29, 2024, at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
