5 big golfers who missed the cut at the 2024 Open de France ft. Billy Horschel
The second round of the 2024 Open de France has concluded, which means only a few golfers in the field have made it to the weekend. There were over 100 golfers playing initially, but only a portion of those has advanced.
Among the ones who missed the cut are a bevy of big names playing in the DP World Tour event. Here are some of the surprises.
Top golfers who missed the cut at the Open de France
5) Angel Hidalgo
The last time Angel Hidalgo completed a tournament, he defeated Jon Rahm in a playoff. At the Alfred Dunhill Links, he couldn't finish but was shooting six under at the time. Hidalgo couldn't return to form this week either. He dropped all the way down below the cut line with a disappointing +4 in the opening round. He was four under in the Open de France second round, but it wasn't enough.
4) Francesco Molinari
Francesco Molinari was one of the biggest names in the Open de France but was unable to take advantage of that. He had a nice turnaround in the second round as he was able to shoot one under par. However, it didn't matter as his opening round one-over score left him just on the outside, looking in. He nearly made it, as the cut line continued to drop through the second round, but it wasn't enough of a fall.
3) Thriston Lawrence
Thriston Lawrence was a player to watch in this tournament. The South African golfer finished fourth at the Open Championship and could have contended for the title in the ongoing tournament. However, an opening round +3 was hard to overcome. A +1 in the second round ensured he wouldn't play on Saturday or Sunday.
2) Nicolas Colsaerts
Last week, Nicolas Colsaerts shot a brilliant -23 in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He finished second by a single stroke in a dazzling display, only trailing Tyrell Hatton. The same cannot be said this week. After two rounds over par, Colsaerts will head home without a chance to continue his good play and push for a victory.
1) Billy Horschel
The pre-tournament favorite rarely wins, with Scottie Scheffler in quite a few 2024 events being a notable exception. Generally, someone else wins despite the odds. However, it is very rare for a tournament favorite to not even make the cut. Billy Horschel had the best odds heading into round one but he fell completely flat. Horschel didn't have a great opening round and a second-round +4 doomed him to miss the cut.
