Kurt Kitayama leads after days at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Kitayama leads after conclusion of second day AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Kitayama started with 10 consecutive pars, then improved and ended with a birdie and a par on two challenging holes at Pebble Beach, resulting in a score of 2-under 70. This performance earned him a one-stroke advantage on Friday.

Kitayama's aggregate after 36 holes is at 9-under 134, with one stroke lead over Keith Mitchell, Brandon Wu, Joseph Bramlett, and Hank Lebioda.

Kitayama has come close to winning on the PGA Tour in the past. In the CJ Cup, he lost to McIlroy by a single-stroke margin. He had a runner-up finish in the Genesis Scottish Open as well.

The wind was quite high on the Monterey Peninsula, which increases the significance of Katayama's comfortable lead. Kitayama might get his hands on the PGA Tour title this time.

"I think the more you put yourself in that position the more you can get comfortable feeling uncomfortable. It's definitely good experiences to fall back on and use coming Sunday, hopefully, " said Kitayama.

The game timing for Saturday has been moved by one hour due to strong winds.

Lebioda was leading for most of the second day until he carded a double bogey on the par 3 fifth hole. He ended the day with a bogey scoring 72. As per Lebioda, the game conditions were not easy and were getting tougher and tougher.

"I thought there was a little bit more wind during my round than I had yesterday out at Monterey. Course is probably a little bit more difficult as well. So a combination of those two things made it a challenging round," said Lebioda.

Seamus Power of Ireland scored a 7-under 64, the lowest on Friday which was hampered by rain and winds.

"The first five, six holes kind of rainy and the ball just wasn't going anywhere," Power said. "Not much wind. Then we got to the turn and then for like an hour, hour-and-a-half, it really blew like pretty strongly there for awhile. The last few holes was very pleasant."

Viktor Hovland, who is making his debut in the Pro-Am, shot 4-under 67 at Monterey Peninsula. He has experience of playing at Pebble Beach, having won the US Open amateur in the past.

Tournament favorite Jordan Spieth scored 68 on Day 2 and was five behind par. He feels he's still in the game as the lead is not that big and will be hoping for a better two days.
