5 golfers who failed to make the cut at the 2024 Genesis Championship ft. Sebastian Soderberg
The Genesis Championship completed its first 36 holes on Friday, October 25. Local star Byeong Hun An tops the leaderboard, with compatriot and fellow PGA Tour player Tom Kim in a share of 8th place.
At the end of the second round, 68 players made the cut (set at 1-under). Among those who will not be able to play this weekend are some interesting players, including some who could be on the PGA Tour next season.
Let's take a look at some of them.
5 golfers who failed to make the cut at the 2024 Genesis Championship
The Genesis Championship is the final event of the 2024 regular season on the DP World Tour. The tour will then move to the United Arab Emirates for the two playoff events.
Here are five players who missed the cut at the Genesis Championship:
#1 Sebastian Soderberg
The Swede is currently ranked seventh on the list of 10 players who will earn their PGA Tour card in 2025. His position is the result of seven top-10 finishes this season, including three runner-up finishes.
However, Sebastian Soderberg has missed four cuts in his last six starts, including scores of 71 and 74 at the Genesis Championship to miss the cut by two strokes.
#2 Yannik Paul
Yannik Paul finished the Genesis Championship at 4-over, the result of back-to-back rounds of 75 and 73. The German carded six birdies, seven bogeys, and one triple bogey during the 36 holes he played in Korea.
Paul is currently ranked 41st in the Race to Dubai, which puts him in a qualifying position for the DP World Tour Championship. However, he is just over 100 points ahead of the provisional cut line, so his qualification is not yet assured.
#3 Aaron Cockerill
The Canadian is also currently qualified for the Tour Championship, but is only 40 points over the provisional cut line, so he is still in danger of being left out.
After missing the cut at the Genesis Championship, his only option to make the final event of the season is to finish well at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the first playoff event.
In Korea, Cockerill lost his chances in the second round when he carded a 4-over 76 with two birdies, four bogeys, and a double bogey.
#4 Joost Luiten
The Dutchman missed the cut by two shots at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea, largely due to his first round score of one birdie and three bogeys.
Joost Luiten is currently in a qualifying position for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, but is less than 30 points over the provisional cut line, so he will not know if he is going to the United Arab Emirates until the end of the Genesis.
#5 Richie Ramsay
The Scot was in Korea trying to make the most of his last chance to play in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship as he was just 50 points short of qualifying. He missed the cut at the Genesis and is now out for the 2024 season.
