5 golfers who made big moves in the FedEx Cup rankings after 3M Open ft. Max Greyserman

Before 2023, the FedEx Cup playoffs association used to consider the top 125 for the series. But since last year, the rules have changed and it has become difficult for golfers to qualify. Only the top 70 will go into the FedEx St. Jude Championship and several golfers were outside the Cup standings even after the Open Championship this year. But as a last-minute relief, the 3M Open was a boon in disguise.

The 3M Open, which took place before the playoffs, helped five golfers go up on the FedEx Cup standings. In addition to that, these golfers were among the top ten in the 3M Open.

Five FedEx Cup movers following the 3M Open

Max Greyserman: Max Greyserman stood at 88 on the FedEx Cup standings and moved to 64 after a second-place finish at the 3M Open. His total stood at -16 under after the event. In the opening round, he dropped four birdies and one eagle to finish at 70. Followed by a second round, where he carded five birdies to land at 68. Then, in the third and fourth rounds, he had five and eight birdies, respectively. His third-round score was 67 and on Sunday, he scored 63. Besides this, he had two more top-20 finishes. He was T7 at the Houston Open and T13 at the Barracuda Championship.

Kurt Kitayama: Kurt Kitayama finished at T6 at the 3M Open and moved from 78 to 74 on the standings. This means that the golfer has another chance at the Wyndham Championship to make it into the playoffs. Besides the 3M Open, Kitayama had a T8 finish at the Houston Open and T19 at the Players Championship.

Jhonattan Vegas: He won the 3M Open with 17-under, which meant he received a whopping 500 FedEx points. This helped him go up in the standings from 149 to 67. At the 3M Open, he performed brilliantly since the first day. On the opening day, he dropped seven birdies to finish at 68. Then, in the next round, he carded six birdies and one eagle to finish at 66. In the third round, he dropped eight birdies and in the last round, he shot four birdies to land at 70.

Maverick McNealy: His third-place finish at the 3M Open got him 58th place on the FedEx Cup standings. His former position was 68 and he moved up 10 places. This was a result of McNealy’s performance at the 3M Open, where he dropped three and six on the first and second days of the tournament, respectively. Then, on the third and fourth day, he carded nine and three birdies, respectively. His scoreboard after the tournament read 70, 66, 63 and 70.
