The second round of the Open Championship was completed on Friday, July 19th at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. The cut line was drawn at 6 over, and several top players missed the cut and will not play on the weekend.
Among the players who missed the cut at the 2024 Open Championship are several who currently play in LIV Golf, including some of the top stars. Let's take a look at who they are.
5 LIV Golfers Who Missed the Cut at the 2024 Open Championship
The 2024 Open Championship field included 16 players from LIV Golf's permanent roster, plus two reserve players. 11 of them will be playing this weekend.
Below are the top 5 LIV Golfers who did not make the cut:
#1 Bryson DeChambeau
Bryson DeChambeau came into Royal Troon as one of the top favorites after his performances in the last three majors. DeChambeau finished T6 at the Masters, T2 at the PGA Championship and won the U.S. Open.
However, he did not fare well at the Open Championship. DeChambeau played the first round with one eagle, five bogeys and one double bogey (5 over). In the second round, he managed one birdie and five bogeys (4 over).
#2 Cameron Smith
Cameron Smith had the worst possible start at Royal Troon, as he was 4 over after two holes of the first round (bogey on the 1st, triple bogey on the 2nd). He then managed three birdies and eight bogeys to finish at 9 over.
Smith improved his performance in the second round (two birdies and five bogeys), but it was a little too late. The 2022 Open champion finished with a score of 12 over.
#3 Tyrrell Hatton
Tyrrell Hatton played his first round at Royal Troon with two bogeys and no birdies, a score that placed him inside the top 50. However, he suffered a series of misfortunes on the second day that saw him miss the cut.
On Friday, Hatton played the front nine with three birdies and two bogeys, but he made four bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine to finish at 8-over and drop 50 spots on the leaderboard.
#4 Louis Oosthuizen
Louis Oosthuizen had a very unlucky outing in the first round, and although he improved during the second round, it was not enough for him to make the cut.
On Thursday, the 2010 Champion Golfer of the Year played a round of one birdie, five bogeys and one triple bogey (7 over). Then on Friday, he carded four birdies and five bogeys to finish at 8-over.
#5 Henrik Stenson
Henrik Stenson could not take advantage of his familiarity with the course (he won the Open Championship there in 2016). The Swede carded one birdie, two bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey (6 over) in the first round and two birdies and four bogeys (2 over) in the second.
