Does Jon Rahm get ranking points for winning LIV Golf Individual Championship? Rules explored
At LIV Golf Chicago, Jon Rahm beat Joaquin Niemann to win the LIV Golf Individual Championship. After three rounds of golf at the Bolingbrook Golf Club, Rahm scored 69-64-66 199 (-11) to win LIV Golf Chicago and the Individual Championship in what is his debut season in the Saudi-backed tour.
After Rahm won the event, one important question surrounding his victory was whether the Spanish golfer would receive OWGR ranking points for his win in Chicago. The answer to this question is no. LIV Golf professionals do not receive OWGR ranking points.
While the Saudi-backed tour attempted to get the rules changed so that its players would receive OWGR points for their victories in the LIV Golf league, it did not succeed in doing so. This is a major reason why so many LIV Golf professionals are seen competing at Major championships and on the European World Tour - so they can earn OWGR points.
So, based on this, Jon Rahm did not receive any points. However, the one thing he earned apart from the trophy and the prize money was the LIV Golf Individual Championship ring which was recently unveiled by the tour. The ring is paired with a hidden ball marker and embossed with a QR code of the winning moment.
