What's the story?

The EurAsia Cup Golf tournament is set to start on 12 January 2018 and the preparations from both Team Europe and Team Asia are underway. The tournament will last 3 days and will be played at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Malaysia.

However, the pre-tournament gesture by Team Asia has caught the attention of the public. Each player of Team Asia has placed the flags of his respective country on the belt buckle.

In case you didn't know...

Team Asia will be captained by the star Indian golfer Arjun Atwal, while Team Europe will be captained by the Danish golfer Thomas Bjorn. The tournament has been held twice previously, both times at the same venue. The first edition, held in 2014, was a tie between both sides, while Team Europe won the 2016 edition. Fellow Indian Jeev Milkha Singh captained the Asian side in 2016.

The heart of the matter

Arjun Atwal with his typical finger-in-belt pose, shows the tricolour resting on his belt, something that the Indian players will wear during the course of the tournament.

The same will be for the rest 13 members of the Asian team which include members from China, India, South Korea, Japan and Thailand. Team Europe, however, has not been seen following the same yet.

What's next?

Team Asia is yet to win the tournament and this is a great chance to even the records. Apart from Arjun Atwal, SSP Chawrasia and Anirban Lahiri will also be representing India and will try to make their mark on the global stage.

Team Europe will be posing great competition as they are being captained by Thomas Bjorn. They will be looking to retain the trophy they won in convincing fashion by 18 ½ - 5 ½ in 2016.

Author's take

This is a brilliant gesture by Team Asia and it should keep their morale high and help them win the tournament on their third attempt.
