“Excuse me?” - Tiger Woods surprised by Matt Kuchar’s son

US golfer Tiger Woods is back in action for his first non-major PGA Tour event appearance, at the Genesis Invitational. In a surprise announcement through social media recently, he mentioned his participation in the tournament.

While at the Riviera preparing for the tournament, Woods and Matt Kuchar began chatting. The two proud fathers had much to talk about, especially regarding their sons' golf.

Their sons Charlie and Cam recently played a round of golf together. So, of course, that conversation was going to find its way when their fathers would be competing.

Matt Kuchar revealed that his son Cam, who is still a teenager, will be competing at the Honda Classic pre-qualifier this week. The news surprised and impressed Tiger Woods, who exclaimed:

"Excuse Me!?"

It was heartwarming to see two fathers wholeheartedly appreciate their younger generation. Sports is often very competitive and Woods has always been a fierce competitor. However, these tender moments are the ones that truly embody the spirit of sports.

The genuine respect that athletes have for each other and for the future batch of players is what really touches the fans.

Tiger Woods and Matt Kuchar got talking about their kids, Charlie and Cam, playing a round of golf together recently. Kucher said:

"Anytime you got your kids playing, that’s what you want them to be doing."

Woods seemed to agree as he replied that his son Charlie wants to do it more often.

The brief footage of the conversation that was shared on social media was a peek inside what happens when great athletes are suddenly transported into the parent zone. And it is always a treat when they do.

These glimpses showcase a more humane side of competition and tournaments than what is seen just during the actual event.

The Genesis Invitational will be held at the Riviera Golf Course, California, from February 16 to 19, 2023.
