Xander Schauffele of the United States jumped from World No. 3 to a career-best World No. 2 after winning the 2024 PGA Championship. The tournament concluded on May 19 at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
Schauffele led the standings at the Championship from the first round, where he carded one of the lowest scores at a Major with a 9-under 62. He maintained his lead from thereon to secure the trophy.

Schauffele scored 6-under 65 in the final round of the PGA Championship, scoring a birdie on the par-5 18th to win the competition. Talking about his birdie on the final hole, he said (via PGA Tour):
"I told myself this is my opportunity — capture it."
Xander Schauffele is the first player to win the PGA Championship by a birdie on the last hole after Phil Mickelson in 2005. Bryson DeChambeau, the runner-up of this year's tournament, said (via PGA Tour):
"I gave it my all. I put as much effort as I possibly could into it and I knew that my B game would be enough. It's just clearly somebody played incredibly well. Xander’s well deserving of a Major championship."
The 2024 PGA Championship marks the first Major win of Schauffele's golf career. Apart from his move up in the OWGR, he also held second place in the FedExCup standings, 1,417 points behind Scheffler. He won 750 points at the Championship, while Scheffler won 191 points for his T8 finish.
Jon Rahm fell by two spots to seventh after failing to make the cut, while Viktor Holland gained two spots to move to fifth. Bryson DeChambeau also made a huge jump from 124th to 35th thanks to his second-placed finish.
