Is Tiger Woods participating in Augusta Masters 2023?
Tiger Woods will not be joining the star-studded field of the 2023 The Players Championship, making people doubt his participation in future tournaments. The five-time Masters winner is more focused on major tournaments and will likely participate in the 2023 Masters, which is scheduled to take place next month.
Woods last participated at the 2023 Genesis Invitational held at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles and will now skip a few tournaments to practice before the Masters.
Tiger Woods finished T45 on the Riviera and said that he wants to play in more tournaments but his health won't allow him.
"Like I told you guys last year", said Tiger Woods. "I'm not going to play any more than probably the majors and maybe a couple more. That's it, that's all my body will allow me to do. My back the way it is, all the surgeries I had on my back, my leg the way it is, I just can't. That's just going to be my future."
He added:
"So, my intent last year was to play in all four. Hopefully this year I can get all four and maybe sprinkle in a few here and there. But that's it for the rest of my career. I know that and I understand that. That's just my reality."
"There’s a lot there" - Tiger Woods talks about Champions dinner
Tiger Woods is looking forward to clinching the sixth Masters of his career to break Jack Nicklaus' record. He has already won five and will join the Masters field for another one.
It is important to note that LIV golfers who are barred from competing on the PGA Tour will also be playing in the Masters this year.
Ahead of the tournament, the past winners will meet at the Champions dinner to praise, appreciate, and celebrate last year's champion, Scottie Scheffler's win.
Tiger Woods opened up about the Champions dinner and said that it will be focused on the champion, Scottie. He said:
"I don’t know, I don’t know what that reaction’s going to be. I know that some of our friendships have certainly taken a different path, but we’ll see when all that transpires. That is still a couple months away. The Champions Dinner is going to be obviously something that’s talked about."
He went on to say:
"We as a whole need to honor Scottie, Scottie’s the winner, it’s his dinner. So making sure that Scottie gets honored correctly but also realizing the nature of what has transpired and the people that have left, just where our situations are either legally, emotionally, there’s a lot there.”
Scheffler also talked about the dinner and went on to say:
"I’m hoping that it will be a fun night. Gathering all those guys together in a room, I mean, it should be a lot of fun. It’s an historic group of people, Masters champions and I’m sure that week all put our personal opinions aside and just have a good night and just kind of enjoy what the night really is.”
