Jordan Spieth wins the 2015 US Open

Jordan Spieth poses with the US Open title

Jordan Spieth won his second major at Chambers Bay in thrilling fashion with a total score of 5-under 72.

Spieth edged out his compatriot Dustin Johnson by one stroke on the 18th in one of the exciting finishes in recent times. Johnson three putted from 12 feet for a par on the last hole to end up with a 70.

South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen, who hit six birdies in his last seven holes finished tied second with Johnson. With this win, Spieth became just the sixth player to win both the Masters and the US Open in the same year. Craig Wood, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods are the other five to have achieved this feat. The 21-year-old also became the youngest golfer to win the US Open since Bobby Jones in 1923.

Spieth was at a loss of words after his spectacular win.

"I'm in shock but I feel for Dustin," said Spieth. "It's cool to be able to have two legs of the Grand Slam now, and to conquer golf's hardest test - the US Open is conquering the hardest layout in all of golf.

"I didn't have my best stuff ball-striking at all and really grinded over those four or five-footers - that was the difference."

Dustin Johnson three putted on the 18th to finish second

The young American came into the final day tied at the top with Johnson, Brendan Grace and Jason Day. Spieth bogeyed his opening hole as he dropped to three under. However, 12 pars and two birdies before a three shot swing on the 16th helped the American lead by 3 with two to go.

Johnson was the one leading in the opening nine holes with a couple of birdies. Three bogeys on the back nine holes hurt his chances as he went to three under after 13.

Oosthuizen was outstanding in the last nine as he finished it in 29 shots.

Rory Mcilroy, who hit six birdies in his opening 13 holes finished with par five at the end.

Mcilroy and Spieth hold all the four majors at the moment. The Northern Irishman won the Open Championship and PGA last year.

It will be an intriguing battle between the World No. 1 and 2 as we head into St. Andrews next month for the Open Championship.
