English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick, the 2022 U.S. Open champion, was born on September 1, 1994. Fitzpatrick, then 18, won his first amateur tournament at the 2012 Boys Amateur Championship; the next season, he won the U.S. Amateur in 2013.

Fitzpatrick won the 2013 Mark H. McCormack Medal and held the top spot in the World Amateur Golf Rankings that season; he turned professional by 2014 and went on to win ten professional titles as of June 2024.

Interestingly, he won the Omega European Masters in 2017 and 2018 and the DP World Tour Championship in 2016 and 2020. The most noteworthy victory of his professional career came in the 2022 U.S. Open, his first major victory over Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris.

Matt Fitzpatrick's Caddie

Matt Fitzpatrick's caddie is Billy Foster as of June 2024.

Billy Foster made light of the fact that he had at last gotten a "gorilla" off his back after assisting Matt Fitzpatrick in winning the 2022 US Open. The Yorkshireman had previously witnessed several of the players he had caddied for, but he had never won a major. After parting ways with Lee Westwood in 2018, Foster and Fitzpatrick stated that they had achieved their maximum potential.

At the 2022 PGA Championship, Fitzpatrick shot a two-under-par 68 in challenging conditions, and after the rounds, Fitzpatrick said that patience was essential and that Foster had been a big help to him in this regard.

Foster's first Ryder Cup experience came with Gordon Brand Junior, after he started out caddying for South African Hugh Baiocchi. Having carried the bag for players like Westwood, Seve Ballasteros, Sergio Garcia, Thomas Bjorn, Darren Clarke, and even Tiger Woods, he is now regarded as one of the most well-known caddies in the world.

Foster and Fitzpatrick get along well at work and are frequently overheard having lengthy conversations. Fitzpatrick asked Foster at the 2019 Scandinavian Invitational for advice on a shot that was in a bush. Foster began by joking that they should "flip a coin" to determine the result before declaring, "Everyone watching at home will say you're cheating. Get on with it!"

Fitzpatrick's confusion over his bagman's yardage on the par-5 13th hole at the 2022 Masters provided yet another funny moment. Fitzpatrick stepped away from the ball and questioned the chat, to which Foster answered, "We've both thought about it and decided it's the right play so get on with it." After the quip, the player asked, "Oh sorry, are you in a rush?" And Foster replied, "No, there's no rush."
