$100 Million & jail time at stake as Golf insiders introduce new Tiger Woods challenge

A brand new episode on the Tiger Woods challenge was posted on X by The Fore Play Podcast of Barstool Sports on December 6, 2024. Apart from them, several golf insiders were already talking about this challenge.

The challenge was originally posted by Michael Antonelli on his official X account on December 4. The tweet was accompanied by a poll. As expected, 84% of the voters chose the cashing out option of $1 million instead of challenging Woods. Antonelli wrote:

"You can have $1 million or You have to play against Prime Tiger Woods for 72 holes.
"If you beat him on a single hole, you win $100mm. If you don't, you go to jail for one year."

In the Fore Play podcast, Frankie Borelli brought this post in their latest episode. Sam Riggs Bozolan and Luggage Guy Trent responded with their takes on the challenge. Riggs claimed that he would be capable of beating Woods "once over 72 holes".

In response to that, Borelli reminded Trent of the record Woods held. He scored 110 consecutive holes as a pro without a bogey. Riggs was confident that he would be able to score a birdie. Trent immediately responded to the claim, saying:

"You got to hope that you birdie a par 3 and he makes a par."
"But like if you're going to birdie a hole he's birdie in that hole," Borelli replied.

Lou Stagner is currently the Data Insights Lead at Arccos Golf. Being involved in data science in the golf space, Stagner revealed some useful information to give more perspective on the challenge. The Performance Coach explained how a 5-index amateur player can beat the legendary golfer on at least one hole.

Lou posted a fresh take on this challenge on his official X account on December 6. He gave his audience two different scenarios between Woods and the amateur golfer with a 5 handicap. He penned down:

"Over 72 holes, what are the chances a 5-index amateur will beat Tiger Woods on at least one hole?"
"SHORT ANSWER: It’s very likely - under reasonable assumptions, around 81%."

Apart from this, Stagner gave fans a complete glimpse at the probabilistic factors of these scenarios. With step-by-step calculation, he explained the odds of ab amateur beating Tiger Woods at least once. The Data Analyst deduced through his calculations that 63% (0.631) is the probability.

Woods is currently hosting the 2024 Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, where Scheffler is defending his title. The 48-year-old decided to drop his chances of teeing off at the Albany Golf Club this year. The call was probably made after considering his health after the sixth back surgery in his career.
