Scottie Scheffler takes the 2024 Hero World Challenge lead

Scheffler came into the Hero World Challenge weekend after a two-month break. The ace golfer, whose last appearance on the circuit came at the Tour Championship in August, was still deemed a favorite to win at Albany this weekend. Now, he has taken the lead after round 2. The 28-year-old golfer had a stellar PGA Tour season in 2024, registering seven wins from 19 starts, including The Masters.

The reigning FedExCup champion kept his form up with a strong round on Friday. Scheffler was at 13-under 131, two ahead of Akshay Bhatia (66) and Justin Thomas (67) after Day 2.

Reflecting on his round to take the lead, Scottie Scheffler said, as quoted by PGATOUR:

“Front nine, just things were going my way. Back nine, maybe not as much. A couple shots could end up closer to the hole, a couple putts go in, just little things… I think in this game I think a lot of all y’all are looking for perfection out of us. Today I shot 8 under on the golf course, not something I hang my head about. A lot of good things out there — clean card, bogey-free, eight birdies. Overall, I think I'm pretty pleased.”

Notably, Scheffler was trailed by sponsor-exempt Thomas. The 31-year-old had a ‘stress-free’ 67 on Day 2 of the competition.
