The 2024 Masters recap
The 2024 Masters took place from April 11–14 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. This was the 88th edition of the most prestigious tournament in professional golf. Jon Rahm entered the tournament as the defending champion. Additionally, this was his first major start since joining LIV Golf.
In the first round of the 2024 Masters, Bryson DeChambeau fired a low 65 to take a one-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler, who was the tournament favorite. Rahm had a rough start and was in the bottom half after a first-round 73.
The second day at Augusta National was a bit higher scoring. DeChambeau succeeded in taking the 36-hole lead despite shooting 73. However, he was joined by Max Homa and Scottie Scheffler at 6-under.
The cut line was set at 6-over par, and 60 players made it to the weekend. Tiger Woods made the cut for the straight 24th year, a record at Augusta National. Phil Mickelson made the 28th cut here, the fourth most in history.
In the third round, DeChambeau's performance continued deteriorating as he shot 75 and slipped to fifth place. Scheffler shot 71 to take a solo 54-hole one-shot lead at 7-under. Collin Morikawa moved to second after shooting 69, while Homa slipped to third with 73. Ludvig Aberg, playing here for the first time, moved to fourth place at 4-under.
Aberg and Scheffler were tied at the top after seven holes, but the World No. 1 golfer picked up six birdies in the remaining holes to finish at 11-under. Aberg could only make three birdies but also double-bogeyed on the par-3 15th to finish runner-up at 11-under.
This was Scheffler's second win at a major, with both of his victories coming at the Masters Tournament. For the uninitiated, he won his first green jacket a couple of years ago.
