24-yo Eugenio Chacarra dubs LIV Golf ‘the future’ while explaining unique reason of joining the Saudi circuit

24-year-old professional golfer Eugenio Chacarra had a very successful amateur career and he made quite a name for himself on the PGA Tour University. However, Chacarra later surprised the world of golf when he signed with Saudi-backed LIV Golf in 2022 on a reported three-year contract.

Chacarra has spent quite some time playing in LIV Golf and he recently spoke about the reason behind joining the Saudi-backed tournament. Originally, Chacarra revealed, he had wanted to delay turning professional. He aimed to stay in college, become No. 1 on the PGA Tour University, and play Majors. However, LIV came calling.

Chacarra said:

"So that was the plan but then obviously I get the call from LIV and I get the call from Sergio, one of my heroes since I was little. And it just made sense I mean having to play with the best players in the world I thought. And I think LIV is the future and I obviously give all my trust to LIV Golf." [22:26]

Further, Eugenio Chacarra spoke about the people who criticized him for joining LIV Golf due to the money. While Chacarra admitted that money was a driving factor, he also said that he wanted to learn from the best. The young Spanish golfer was grateful for learning from his team captain Sergio Garcia.
