2x Masters champion Scottie Scheffler ponders on why the "challenging" Augusta National suits his game
Scottie Scheffler this week answered a question about the Masters Tournament venue, Augusta National, suiting his game. Scheffler has won the Masters Tournament twice. His first victory came in 2022, where he scored 10-under 278. His second victory at the Masters Tournament came in 2024, where he finished with 11-under 277 by scoring 66, 72, 71, and 68 over the four rounds.
The World No. 1 joined the Golf Subpar show earlier this week. One of the hosts brought up his victory at Augusta this year and mentioned that in a previous episode, Scheffler's caddie Ted Scott had described why the golfer plays well there. The host then asked the golfer what it was about the course that suited his game. Scottie Scheffler said,
“I think you just have to really manage your way around the golf course and there's certain areas where it gets so challenging on the weekend...like the years I've won it's been pretty firm and fast. And so controlling it and getting onto those little shelves...controlling the ball going into the greens. And I feel like I'm typically pretty patient on the course”(19:00).
He added,
This year [...] I just hit some key shots where I needed to and played the the hard holes well. On Sundays you really just gotta hit the shots. That's really what it comes down to, and some years I've hit the shots and pulled them off and then other years I haven't. But I feel like it's a place where if you manage your way around the golf course well...it just seems like there's a lot of ways you can play it you can hit it really good and putt average and be up there on the leaderboard on the hard years” (19:36).
Scottie Scheffler isn't playing in any tournament currently but the golfer will make an appearance at ESPN's College GameDay, which is a pre-game broadcast.
