5 big-name golfers who missed the cut at the 2024 Open Championship ft. Rory McIlroy

The 2024 Open Championship is the last major of the season and it is proving to be the toughest as well. The Royal Troon Golf Course has been a tough one for golfers to navigate over the last two days, with several notable names missing the cut.

Shane Lowry is currently in the lead of the Open Championship, after carding rounds of 66-69 for a cumulative score of -7. Justin Rose and Daniel Brown also find themselves at the top of the leaderboard and in contention to win the Claret Jug.

The likes of Rickie Fowler and Robert MacIntyre just about managed to make the cut at the Open Championship, with the cut line sitting at +6 after two rounds. However, other golfers were not so lucky. Here are five world-class golfers who missed the cut at the Open.

5 notable names that missed the cut at the 2024 Open Championship

1. Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy's search for his first major win in over a decade will continue. The 35-year-old failed to make the cut at the Open after carding a score of +11.

Rory McIlroy faced a crushing defeat at the 2024 U.S. Open in June, as he lost out to Bryson DeChambeau by just one stroke. While he entered the Open Championship as one of the favorites, his round 1 score of +7 and round 2 score of +4 were just not enough to make the cut.

2. Wyndham Clark

Wyndham Clark has had a less-than-ideal campaign at the Open, finishing right at the bottom of the leaderboard. Clark carded a total of six double-bogeys over the last two rounds to post a score of +16.

With Clark gearing up to represent Team USA at the 2024 Olympics in August, his early exit has raised concerns about his form amongst fans.

3. Ludvig Aberg

Ludvig Aberg's first ever Open Championship has not gone as planned. The rising star was one of the favorites to make a run for the win this weekend. However, he carded an overall score of +9, shooting 75-76 over the two days of the Open

4. Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods once again failed to make the cut in the 2024 season. Woods has been struggling to perform this year, missing the cut in three out of the four majors. The unrelenting Royal Troon course took its toll on Woods, who shot a +14 to finish off his first two rounds of the Open.

5. Bryson DeChambeau

Bryson DeChambeau won the 2024 U.S. Open and entered the Open Championship as one of the favorites to win. However, he carded rounds of 76–75, with a cumulative score of +9. With the cut line sitting at +6, DeChambeau missed the cut by 3 strokes.
