5 big-name golfers missing from the 2024 Olympics men’s golf ft. Bryson DeChambeau
The 2024 Olympics men's golf event is set to take place from Thursday, August 1, to Sunday, August 4, at Le Golf National in Paris, France. This is the third consecutive time and fifth overall that golf has been included in the Olympics.
A total of 60 players will compete for the coveted gold medal over four days at Le Golf National. The field will feature top players such as Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and defending champion Xander Schauffele. However, a few notable names have missed out on qualification for the Paris Olympics 2024.
In this article, we will look at five big names missing from the Paris Olympics 2024.
Five big names missing from the 2024 Olympics golf event
1) Bryson DeChambeau
Bryson DeChambeau has narrowly missed out on an Olympic berth. He is ranked ninth in the OWGR and is the sixth-highest-ranked American. For the uninitiated, only the top four Americans have qualified for the Paris Olympics in 2024.
This is the second time DeChambeau has been unlucky in his bid to make it to the Olympics. Last time, he tested positive for COVID-19 just before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
2) Brooks Koepka
Brooks Koepka is another big name who has missed out on the 2024 Olympics qualification. He is well below the ranks, as the LIV Golf events are not awarded OWGR points. Besides, he didn't have a great year in the major championships either.
Koepka has never played in the Olympics. Last time, he had removed himself from the possible qualification.
3) Tyrrell Hatton
Tyrrell Hatton is one of the most consistent British golfer at the moment but he will not feature at the 2024 Olympics. He is currently ranked 25th in the OWGR and is the third-highest-ranked British golfer behind Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick.
Last time, Hatton also opted out of the possible Olympic qualification.
4) Sergio Garcia
Sergio Garcia will miss this week's action in Paris, as he is not among the top-ranked Spaniards. Garcia played in the 2016 Olympics and tied for eighth, but he was not the best-performing Spanish golfer that year, as Rafa Cabrera-Bello finished T5.
During the 2020 Olympics, Garcia opted out due to COVID-19 concerns.
5) Cameron Smith
Cameron Smith is another LIV golfer who is not competing in the 2024 Olympics. He is currently behind Jason Day and Min Woo Lee as the highest-ranked Australian golfers.
Smith competed in the 2020 Olympics, where he tied for tenth and was the best-performing Australian in Tokyo.
